Piece of Literature

                                                                 MY LIFE’S FILE
“Life is what we make it, we are the architect of it, empowered to design our own destiny”, a quotation that implies the realization of how life is being created and created a new life. A new life formed and completed with the loving image and lightness of Jesus Christ through our parent’s union of love and every life has a unique identity molding his own story.
In this moment of time, another special story will be revealed and that story is the journey of how a girl existed and is living in a challenging world.
While the universe is at its silent state, while the world is continuing to rotate and all people are striving to survive, there are two people who met each other in a school at Tagum City, Philippines and their destiny blended. The man was named Cesario Garcia and the woman was Maria Nieves Garcia. The two who were currently studying that time, fell in love with each other and decided to get marry and planned to settle down at La Filipina, Tagum City. After marriage, the fruit of their love was made and after nine months of extreme care, Maria gave a birth to a 5.5 pounds cute girl born on September 5 at 5:00 p.m. This Virgoan child was filled with so much love by her parents and as she continues to grow into a cheerful girl, she discovers a world full of wonderful surroundings and people which brightens up her day. She saw how beautiful the place and the human beings that surround her. With these she enjoyed playing with her playmates and cousins at her age. But as days passed by, the girl realized that why is that, she does not have brothers and sisters like her playmates and why is that when she is at home, she is the only one that is playing. She asked her father this questions and her father told her that she is the only child in the family and she must bear with it. After this, the girl realized that it is not easy to be the only child in the family for she will play with herself but his father ensured her that she will still be happy with other ways like going to school and later on,  she decided to go to the Hope Kindergarten School to study and meet new friends.
The girl is very happy in mingling with her new classmates and appreciated the importance of schooling. She is just silent in the classroom and observes what the teacher teaches but if her named was called, she could also answer the question given to her. After classes, the girl directly goes to her home for his father is waiting for her to arrive. Her father will teach her how to read and write with discipline and this routine helped the girl to be the class valedictorian. Her parents are very happy with the recognition achieved by their daughter whom also cannot believe of what she obtained.
She cannot believe on herself that she could do it and she continue to strive hard as she went to grade school. But it is different now in grade school, since the girl will study away from their house and his father will only send and fetch her after school. The girl is afraid of being alone in a very big school namely the Magugpo Pilot Central Elementary School. But his father told her that she must be brave in order for her to study well and finished grade school. With this, she just focused on schooling and interacts with her new friends and classmates. The girl also joined to school activities like dancing competitions for she really like to dance, leadership organizations like being a representative of her grade and being a girl scout member from Grade 1 to Grade 6, and also a certified Sports Writer and Editor- in - Chief in the school publication namely, “The Golden Harvest” which won several times as the best school paper in region.
With these experiences, the girl together with her close friends inside the class made a “barkadahan”. This group consists of eleven diligent, joyful and unique students and they named it as M.O.B or My Only Barkada. The friendship among the members of this barkadahan grew stronger until they graduate and promised to each other that they will be going to be friends no matter what happen.
The girl was very lucky to have this friendship for her friends gave her good influence in studying and joining academic competitions which really helped the girl to enhance her academic skills and potential in writing. With these, she won as the best sports writer in her division. She developed herself and eradicated her attitude of being ashamed.
As she graduated, she told her parents happily that she was one of the students who got With Honors and her parents are so jolly and proud of what their daughter said to them. The girl as she enter the stage on their Graduation day was so overwhelmed of what she achieved and finally, she finished as an honor student her elementary years.
When she is going to enter high school, the girl felt the nervous inside her, she was afraid of what will high school be and facing new faces of different people in high school. Fortunately, she felt relieved when she saw her classmate namely Mylene in elementary also going to the school where the girl is going too. And together, they went to La Filipina National High School and made to be classmates.
The girl appreciated little by little the high school life and also her nervousness is slowly diminishing. When she was in first year high school, she gained many friends and enjoyed schooling with her friends including Mylene. Mylene and the girl were also got closer to each other since they helped one another in studying.
The girl also tried to run as a candidate in their school as a student leader and luckily she won. With this, she was known not only among the students but also among the teachers. She was offered to be a girl scout and she accepted it. She was also chosen as one of the quizzer in Science and won a place in the Math and Science Fair. But what the girl struck the most was the vacant position of being the Sports Writer in the school publication. So, the girl with the courage inside her, she joined the elimination to be the sports writer. In the elimination she happened to mingle with some of the writers in their school. She also recognized the adviser of the school publication, “The Harbinger”. Mr. Harley Aglosolos, the adviser of the school publication was also finding a new Copy Reader and with that, I told Mylene to join also the elimination. As usual, after the elimination, the girl and Mylene waited for the result.
After hours of waiting, both girls are so excited and as they saw their names in the bond paper, they celebrated for they are now certified writers of the school publication. Few months later, as they regularly write articles, they joined the Division schools press conference. The girl was excited and nervous too, for it will be her first time to qualify in the secondary competition which was really different on elementary competition. But she believed in God and of what she had studied, so she was ready to compete with the different writers from the different schools from the Tagum City. In the one hour of writing a sports article, the girl strived harder and poured her best. She was happy since they are tasked to write a Volleyball game and she happened to study it. The girl has a good feeling of it and it was really true for in announcing the winners, her named was called and she was very happy with it. She thank God and her coach for helping her to win in the competition.
As the girl continued her life as being student, she happened to have a crush in their school. Every time she saw this boy, her heartbeat made faster as if it will explode and she shared what she felt to her classmates. But her classmates instead of keeping it, they tried to get the attention of the crush of the girl. Luckily, her classmates succeeded. The boy knew that the girl has a crush on her and when she recognized the girl, he got a crush on her too but the girl did not know about it yet. The girl felt ashamed every time she saw the boy and she noticed that the boy kept staring on her. Months later, this special connection between the boy and the girl continued and grew more. The girl was so inspired with what she feels and this made her to study better. With that, she was a consistent honor student.
In the month of February, particularly on the Valentine’s Day, the boy and the girl were caught for a blind date. The girl did not know what to do when she knew who will be her blind date. But the boy made her calm when he told the girl that this was just a blind date and apologized to her that she was on this situation. The girl appreciated the concern of the boy to her. After the blind date, the girl was surprised for the boy gave her a Valentine gift. It is a figurine of two doves holding a letter sealed with a heart. The girl cannot explained what she had felt in that moment and  the boy confessed to her that he felt something special to her. The girl just nodded and told him that she also had felt special for the boy. After the conversation, they both went home. The girl was very happy and she cannot stop to smile every time she remember what happened on that day and after one month, the boy courted the girl and the girl seeing the perseverance of the boy told the boy that he can be now his boyfriend.
Yes, the boy and the girl were on a relationship and after few months the girl told her parents that she have a boyfriend. Disappointed at first, her parents told her that she was young for that relationship but they also said that they will accept the relationship if their daughter will promise to them that she must maintain her good grades and being a consistent honor in their school. So, the girl did what her parents told her and she really did to be a consistent honor student until she reached fourth year high school and her relationship to his boyfriend continued and grew stronger though the boy had already graduate and went college at Davao.
In the fourth year high school, the girl being inspired and determined to graduate with many awards and recognition in the graduation, she joined many competitions and continued to be a Sports Writer, a Cadet girl scout, a proponent in a Science Investigatory Project and a Jazz Chanter.
With the help of God and hardwork, she won on the competitions she had joined.  As the associate editor and Sports writer of their school publication, The Harbinger, together with the other staff and writers, they all rejoiced, for their school paper won as the best school paper in Region 11 beating 77 schools in the region. As a researcher of the Science Investigatory Project entitled, “ The feasibility of Trichoderma harzanium as microbial agent against Coffee Berry disease” won on the regional competition and being one of the proponents, the girl also was a national qualifier.
But being a Jazz Chanter was the most special award that was achieved by the girl. For five months of practice, training, and challenges, the girl together with her co jazz chanters did not gave up just to win on the division level up to the national level and their dream came true for they won as the Grand Champion in the national level, beating different regions all over the Philippines. The experience was very amazing for that was their first time to go to Bohol where the competition was held. Lots of adventures, shopping, roaming around Bohol and eating the delicious delicacies of the Boholanos were the part of the success of the jazz chanters.
When they got home, it was March already and the girl went back to her study habit. Weeks later, graduation arrived and with God’s grace, the girl achieved many awards and recognitions. She graduated as the First Honorable Mention and her parents are very proud of her. She told her parents that all she had done was dedicated for them and she will also be responsible student when she will enter the college life.
College life came and the girl decided to study at St. Mary’s College, taking Bachelor of Secondary Education. As the school year starts, the girl was on the difficulty to adjust for a college is a difficult level of learning but she study well her lessons to keep in touch with her grades.  She also joined on the school activities like interpretative dancing where she really excelled. Life was moving forward and the girl’s focus was on her study when her Grandmother whom was very close to her was diagnosed with cancer and the doctor told them that only few months were left for Grandmother to live. Her world was disturbed and she was really worried on her grandmother’s condition. Every time she had a chance to be with her grandmother, she ensured that her grandmother will be happy with her. The girl shared everyting happened to her at school with her grandmother. Her grandmother told her that she must continue to do well in school and be a good daughter to her parents. The girl nodded and told her beloved grandmother that she will try her best to do it all.
With her promise to her lola, she became on a the Dean’s Lister which she quickly announced to her lola and her lola was very happy and proud of her. But few days later, the girl’s grandmother died and the girl was very sad for she will never see her grandmother again but she was also happy for her grandmother will not suffer to any illness anymore and will be in the Kingdom of God forever.
It was very difficult for the girl to move on but since life must go one, little by little she accepted that her grandmother died already but the memories of her lola in her heart will be forever and will guide her as long as she live.
Now, the girl was already in second year college and continuing her life as a student and as a daughter. She kept on studying with the lessons being taught to her teachers for she believe that education is very vital to her life. And when the month of September came, the girl was being chosen to be the representative of AB, CRIMINOLOGY AND EDUCATION department in the search for G. at Bb. Filipiñiana of their school. At first the girl is hesitant to accept it since she feels that she is not suited for it and because she has no experience of joining beauty pageants ever. But, she was being pleased by the people who were close to her especially her parents who really supported her all the way.
The girl accepted that will be the one to compete in the pageant and learned all the needed things to know in joining a pageant. Being her first time, she had a difficulty on how to ramp on stage, how to poise gracefully and how to face with a huge crowd. But her friends taught her and though it was difficult to learn these all, she tried her very best to the extent that she fell sick because of the much pressure that she cannot meet the expectations of everyone. And after days of preparation, the pageant came and the girl felt so nervous but with the guidance of God, she conquered her fear in standing before the crowd. She managed to ramp and answered the question from the heart and when the host announced who will be the Bb. Filipiñiana, the girl wanted to cry out of nervous and excitement. She prayed to God hoping that she will won and when the host uttered her name, she cannot believed. She was very happy and thankful to guard that she won. She also thank her parents on supporting her and all that believe on her capacity. The girl is like floating in the air of what she had achieved since all of her sacrifices are all worthy. Being the winner, the girl must also compete for G. at Bb. Pamantasan. She did all what she had done in preparing for this competition, another sleepless nights and tiring practices were undergone by the girl. She also prayed to God for guidance and enlightenment and truly God did not disappoint the girl for she was also being crowned as the Bb. Pamantasan and in the regional level, the girl won as third runner up and best in talent.
When she came back in her school, most of the students and teachers were proud of her and she was very thankful to them because they were also one of her inspiration in doing best that she can in the pageant. She also expected that some people will recognize her and others will criticize her because they think that she is not deserving to win in those pageants for she is not so beautiful. The girl felt sad for that but took all of the criticisms as a challenge for her to have confidence on herself. And now, as she continues to live, she is trying her best to develop more herself as a mature person for she is already eighteen years old who studies her lessons and obey always her parents. The girl turned into a lady and felt the responsibility in making decisions in her life. She also never forgets God on being very thankful to Him for all the blessings she obtained in her life. With God, her parents and her friends, she is so inspired in doing her best in every field of life she will take, cementing a legacy of how she lived almost perfectly with her simple and unique name that no one will easily remember, the name of the one who wrote this piece of her literature who hopes that her life will inspire others and that is me, KAREN C. GARCIA.
